Yosemite, oil on canvas, 12 x 9 in, 2014.

I took the photo that inspired this painting as I was leaving Yosemite National Park. I can’t tell you what mountain or lake we are looking at, but I can tell you it was a rare moment of being alone along the highway in Yosemite. I never cease to feel the insignificance of my human self in the presence of nature like this. The wisdom of the trees, the water, the rocks that have been here for eons, all humble me into my place as a small living creature in this wild world.
